A-10C Thunderbolt II 79-0193, 127th FW, Michigan ANG "Red Devils", 2012
HA1319
General Background
The A-10C is an updated version of the 30-year old A-10A. The cockpit has two-F-16 style 5.5 inch color displays, a moving map display and other electronic upgrades while keeping the A-10 ability to function as a CAS aircraft/tank killer. They have taken the best of the "new" and matched it with the best of the "old" and come up with one mean machine. The A-10C has already seen combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The A-10 motto, "Go Ugly Early".
The Aircraft
Fairchild Republic A-10 serial 79-0193 was manufactured in 1979 as c/n A10-0457 and was assigned to the 76th FS/23rd FG "Vanguards" before being re-assigned to the 103rd FS/111th FW Pennsylvania ANG. With base re-alignments the PA ANG A-10s were distributed to other units and 79-0193 was sent to the 107th FS/127th Wing (Red Devils) Michigan ANG at Selfridge ANGB. The 107th FS/127th Wing (Red Devils) had completed a deployment in Afghanistan and are facing the same fate as the 103rd FS/111th FW.
